Self-Care in the time of Coronavirus
- Prioritize sleep: When it comes to taking care of your health and well-being, sleep is pretty much always part of the answer. Getting enough good-quality sleep keeps you functioning at your best.
- Get active: Getting physical activity is one of the most effective ways to stay mentally healthy. Exercise releases endorphins, sharpens focus and aids sleep. Staying active boosts energy and improves mood overall. Once the weather turns cold a dance or stretch break are great indoor options.
- Get outside: Living in Vermont there are plenty of activities to enjoy outdoors; walking, biking, hiking, running and once the snow arrives skiing and sledding. It is important to get outside and breathe in some fresh air.
- Stay connected: Social support is important for getting through difficult experiences - especially for middle schoolers. Make time to connect with friends and family. Schedule a regular phone call or video chat, write an old fashioned letter or use social media wisely. Or even sit on your front steps and greet your neighbors.
- Do something that brings you joy: Do hobbies or arts and crafts, listen to music or a podcast, read a book, watch a movie or bake a cake.
- Laugh: It changes the biochemistry of our brains and boosts immunity. We all need that right now
